This page has been written using information from the central government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The rules and requirements for flying drones depends on the risk of an accident during a flight. There 3 categories defined that apply throughout the European Union:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Flights with a <strong>low risk<\/strong><\/span><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The category for low-risk flights is called <strong>open category<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Flights with a <strong>medium risk<\/strong><\/span><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The category for low-risk flights is called <strong>specific category<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Flights with a <strong>high risk<\/strong><\/span><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The category for low-risk flights is called <strong>certified category<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">For each category, the risk posed by the flight is considered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Requirements for flights in the open category (low risk)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">The drone weighs (at take-off) a maximum of 25 kg;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">You will fly up to a maximum altitude of 120 metres;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">You are not transporting hazardous materials;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">You don't drop anything from the drone;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">You always have a view of the drone. This is called the <span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">visual line of sight<\/span>\u00a0(VLOS).<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Does your flight not meet 1 or more of these requirements? Then your drone flight is not a low-risk flight.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Requirements for flights in the specific category (medium risk)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Flying above people is allowed;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Flights near aerodromes are allowed;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Drones over 25 kilos may be flown;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Within the inhabited area may be flown;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Higher than 120 metres may be flown;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Drones may drop something, e.g. spraying crops;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">There may be flying out of direct view. The observer is a licensed pilot. <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The observer always has a view of the drone. And is always in contact with the pilot.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); font-size: 12pt; letter-spacing: -0.01em; color: #000000;\">For toy drones weighing less than 250g at take-off, the general rules apply while flying. But the pilot:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Needs no minimum age to fly a toy drone and may fly without an observer;<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">No need to register with RDW.
